About You
I really enjoyed the week. Good overview of all areas of the front office.
I felt that Barclays had put a lot of time and effort into organising the week and it was well structured so that we always had something to do.
If we had any troubles, we were able to ask questions freely. HR gave us a lot of support throughout the week.
The skills I developed were more related to banking and finance, whereas I come from a mathematics background. However, it did allow me to get to know more about where I want to go after I graduate and perhaps streamline which modules I want to take.
The Company
The structure of the insight was very organised. On the first 3 days we covered each area of the front office: Banking, Markets and PCB&Barclaycard. We spent the last 2 days work shadowing and preparing and performing our group presentations. They also allocated times for lunch and breaks.
The general atmosphere was that all the interns were approachable and friendly. Sometimes it got a bit pressurising due to the feeling of being assessed but still it was a really enjoyable experience.
They spent a lot of time on making sure we had a good idea of the different areas so that we can know what area we want to go into.
It gave me a better understanding of the lifestyle and culture. A taster of what the days were like, but I understand the days will be much more in comparison.
We had a presentation on the Barclays company and values, also the employees we met also gave us a good idea of the company culture.
Very valuable.
Everything Else
I was paid and reimbursed expenses.
There were speed networkings on some days where we got to meet a wide variety and levels of employees. We also had a networking evening on one of the days.
There were a few, although I would've enjoyed the opportunity to have more.
Studenthubs, and then after work culture such as going for meals with your team etc.
Definitely. It's a great experience and you learnt a lot. The hours do sometimes get tiring, so you must be committed.
