About You
I felt it was very informative and well organised. The representatives from each part of the bank where more than helpful and willing to sit down with us either for general chat or specific questions. Everyone was very enthusiastic and even though we were being assessed the whole time, it did feel like it was more based on your individual performance as opposed to ranking you against others.
They took extra care to plan each of our sessions and made sure that we found them interesting. I do wish HR could have dived into our CVs a bit more beforehand. Then again it is usually left to the responsibility of the individual to meet HR and other individuals, making sure you are heard and seen.
A lot of support and a lot of guidance was given in the form of a handbook as well as verbal advice from HR and other representatives. There was transparency over the whole process and also how they felt we could succeed in the environment.
Not that much in degree studies - however it identified the elements of my degree that could be helpful and the subjects that I probably will never use again.
The Company
Very well structured, kept to time and had a variety of topics throughout the day.
General atmosphere was a little bit competitive. Mainly on the front that time to ask questions (and therefore make yourself seen) was pretty limited. Only day for some real one on one networking was Friday, other days you were often with other people. However, people were friendly and collaborative.
Quite a tremendous amount.
Only so much you can learn without actually doing the work yourself. Barclays did give us two opportunities to shadow which were great. I would recommend making the most of this time.
The culture of the company was reiterated time and time again, so much so that I could help someone else understand the culture of the company even though I don't work there.
Really invaluable experience and even though I now have an IDEA of the specific division I want to work in, HR reiterated the point that we can change our minds. Also being open to all parts of the bank can make your time a lot more enjoyable.
Everything Else
I was paid and reimbursed expenses
Indeed, networking essentially happened throughout the week, usually in groups.
There weren't really any 'social' events but there was a networking evening with food [pizza and chips] and drink.
Yes, found out about various volunteering opportunities
Indeed I would.
