About You
I thoroughly enjoyed the insight week. It was intense at times and I was shattered by the last day but I was able to learn a huge amount about the industry and my potential future career.
It was clear that Barclays were making an investment in our talent. As a result I felt highly valued by the firm. This is evidenced by the large number of staff, some very senior, that took time out of the schedules for our benefit.
Strong guidance was given throughout the presentation and this lasted for the entirety of the programme. This was especially the case with regards to how to stand out during the week to give yourself the best chance of being fast-tracked for a summer internship interview.
There was not a huge amount of direct overlap between my degree studies and the information I received. However several of the skills gained were very useful, particularly with regards to group work and presentation skills.
The Company
The entirety of the insight was very well structured. We were given a timetable on the first day and the vast majority of activities took place on schedule.
Overall the atmosphere throughout the programme was very positive. Other students were knowledgeable and hard working and everyone put their full effort into all of the activities. One note to mention is that throughout the week, students are being assessed. This at times creates an atmosphere of aiming to outshine people rather than to learn. However that being said, once the activities begin it is easy to forget that you are being assessed.
Barclays' staff made a significant investment in our personal training and development. We received tailored training in terms of presentation delivery which was very helpful for the last day's exercise.
I was able to meet and shadow employees from a range of different business areas and my understanding of the role of a full time analyst definitely improved.
The unique culture at Barclays is something that was emphasised throughout the week, especially with reference to their values.
Networking and work shadowing opportunities were invaluable in helping me to decide on my future career path.
Everything Else
I was paid and reimbursed travel expenses.
There were a large number of opportunities throughout the week. My only issue was that at times there were a large ratio of students to employees.
Many networking opportunities, limited organised social opportunities.
Not a huge amount.
I would definitely recommend this to a friend, especially one who like me is unsure of where their future career path lies within banking.
