About You
The first day was quite daunting and discouraging, as very difficult questions were asked during presentations, intimidating the rest. A mini group project on the first day to establish rappor between the interns would be commendable. That said, the rest of the internship was very enjoyable, with a good combination of presentations group projects and activities, as well as the highlight of work shadowing. It felt as if the internship became easier as the days went by.
I felt quite valued during my time at Barclays. The seniors we work shadowed treated the interns with respect and interest, being very accommodating and open to questions. The HR was also very friendly and respectful, although maybe a bit distant n the beginning, given the rotation of exposure to HR individuals. The reoccurring appearance of James, Tanita and Katrina was reassuring. Otherwise the projects embarked d upon and presentations given were quality and I definitely feel enriched d leaving the internship. The venue and lunches provided also made a good impression.
HR and any other employees taking part in running the internship were friendly and open to questions. I especially liked how much time we got to spend during work shadowing, where we could really ask as many questions as we wished and understand the roles at a deeper level. The panels, presentations, and case studies were also very conducive to helping me understand where I'd be best suited within the bank. The plan of the internship was clear at the outset with minimal confusion.
The skills of interpersonal skills and giving presentations will help with my degree studies, especially with group projects. It also required dedication and commitment to carry this program through, as well as focus, which will have positive benefits in my pursuit of studies. As for beyond, the following observations apply but for my career. Specifically, the amount of information we gained about the banking industry and the jobs within, as well as Barclays, will definitely help me make more informed career decisions in the future.
The Company
The insight had a clear structure with a good mix of group activities, presentations, and exposure to live job activity. The breaks in between were also adequate to maintain focus. That said, the first day can be improved by adding more group activities to encourage increased familiarity between intern.
The atmosphere was very exciting. Especially on the work shadowing and trading tours, bankers were extremely upbeat and inviting. Also the internship was adequately professional and motivating.
The firm invested a lot into me, all with the multiple presentations, work shadowing, and activities that we did.
The insight really helped me understand what it would be like to have a full time role in the company, especially through the work shadowing. The number of opportunities we were given to as questions and carry out activities related to each division also increased this understanding.
Very much so as we were able to talk to employees from all divisions of the bank and had exposure to such on a daily basis. We also spent a lot of time becoming familiar with Barclays' values.
Extremely helpful, the work shadowing and questions posed really clarified where I find I would fit best within the organization.
Everything Else
I will be paid 250 pounds for the week as well as have expenses of travelling within london reimbursed.
Yes multiple, from networking events to activities with employees present.
Magnificent, I got to talk to a lot of employees from different parts of the bank and ask them whatever questions I desired.
This was a topic that would have needed more personal pursuit to find more about. The question was posed at a networking event and I learned a little about the volunteering activities that one of the employees embarked upon outside of work.
Of course!! The experience is invaluable and you will definitely leave feeling enriched.
