The Role
I was given the support and tools to develop throughout the duration of the internship. My performance was measured by the quality of work produced as well as feedback I received from respective team. Focus was placed on development opportunities which enabled me to maximise my experience at the FSA. I also relished the opportunity to shadow other division which where outside of my teams remit i.e. General Counsel Division and Markets
Given the short time I had to impress the team, from day one I was made to feel like a valued member of the team. This was emphasised by involvement in team events.
My manager supported from day one until the end of the internship; he identified areas of improvement which i acted. Assisted me in identifying shadowing opportunities etc.
I was given my own caseload which ienabled me to draw on my organisational and communication skills
I was given a fair amount of responsibility considering I was an intern. I was not given any photocopying unless it was my own. I was working on real enquiries which the team receives on daily basis. I was responsible for making judgement calls on recommended coursed of action
I acquired stakeholder management skills as I was often required to balance the needs of internal stakeholders with external ones, a skill which you are unlikely to acquire at university
The Company

Seamless: HR provided opportunities for delegates to meet with key Managers of each business unit. Learning and development opportunities were also included.
E-learning, allocated buddy for the duration of the internship and weekly bilats with my Manager.

Subsidised/Company Gym

Working from home
I was offered a place on the Graduate Development programme upon receiving an outstanding appraisal.
The Culture
The FSA laid on regular social events including a community affairs away day.
Expensive as is the cost of living in London.
Canary Wharf never sleeps, there is always somewhere to go and something to do whether it be bars, restaurants or going to the gym.
A weekly newsletter was sent round to staff which interns also received.
