About You
I found it very interesting as it gave me an overview of how a multinational bank as UBS works, what are the different divisions and what is the culture of the company. I also learnt a lot about the financial industry and the daily work of different bankers.
Everybody (from the Insights planners to the bankers) was very friendly, supportive and happy to answer all of our questions. I felt very valued and free to talk about my fears as I realized a lot of current bankers previously had the same feeling.
It was well-structured, we knew at the beginning of the week what we will do during the next 5 days. Also, the HR were very supportive and guided us during the whole week (especially during the assessment center).
First, I learnt a lot about being a good team player as we did several team building activities. This will definitely help my in my studies and my career. Second, now I know exactly how an investment bank works, what are the different jobs and how the divisions are related to each other. My mind is clearer and it will be easier to develop my technical skills.
The Company
It was perfectly structured: we started with an overview of a bank and of the global economy and it was followed suit by deeper presentations of the different divisions, with speakers willing to answer our questions. I liked the workshops and the trading tour that made us participate a little bit more.
It was a great atmosphere: we got on well with each other, all the students were really interested in the area and it was good sharing our different experiences and feedback on the Insights.
We could train for both the numerical test and the assessment center (we did presentations, group exercises). The time allocated to personal training was good.
The work shadowing was the part of the Insight that helped me the most see what it would be like to have a full time role with the bank. Indeed, I spent an afternoon with analysts who explained to me their job, their work on a daily basis which was very valuable.
Talking to analysts, traders, HR, the operation teams helped me understand the spirit and culture of UBS: it is a supportive and friendly environment that emphasizes collaboration, challenges and integrity.
I would definitely want to try a summer internship before deciding on my future career path as an Insight is not enough to make a definite choice but investment banking looks definitely appealing to me.
Everything Else
I was reimbursed expenses (train and accommodation). Breakfasts and lunches were also provided.
There were many opportunities for networking: during lunch time, during the work shadowing and during a special speed networking.
It could be one on one networking or group networking. We had plenty of time to ask as many questions as we wanted. We were not stick to one division but could move from employees working to ICS to those working in CCS for instance.
We had a very interesting session about community affairs and the commitment of UBS and employees in helping others by volunteering.
I would definitely recommend this insight: people are committed to their work, passionate and happy to share their experience. This is also a great opportunity to really understand the bank.
