The Role
Absolutely fantastic. Would love to work for them again, possibly in a different research area though.
Some were exceptionally friendly and would go out of their way to be helpful, others were kind but particularly forthcoming.
Always people around you could ask for help, plenty of other places to get advice.
Some days were frantic and very busy, others were much quieter, but there was always SOMETHING to do.
The experiments I ran were my responsibility and whilst they had to be checked by my supervisor, I got to decide what to do and was responsible for writing them up.
My degree hasn't provided me with many practical skills, but I'm now MORE than competent in a lot of different assays.
The Company
Quite a quiet office, but it was conducive to work, so it wasn't a problem. Breaks were when we mostly chatted.
With the exception of understanding where my role fitted into the rest of the company in terms of departments etc, it was perfect.
Shedloads. It was sometimes hard to remember why they employed us: what could they possibly be gaining?!
Flexi Time
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Job not guaranteed, but I'm now known within the company and having been GSK trained would probably work in my favour.
The Culture
All the students got together quite frequently and occasionally with other colleagues.
Pretty good. Nice house not too expensive considering the salary, transport and pub fairly cheap.
Depends on what you like. Pubs were grand despite being standard Wetherspoons type chains, clubs weren't for me but others enjoyed them.
Some but I wasn't really looking to get involved.
