The Role
The work was a brilliant insight into life at KPMG, and I was fortunate enough to be able to put my languages to use.
Everyone was extremely helpful and always made my contributions feel worthy and appreciated.
It would have been helpful to have a more structured internship programme, as there were times when we were not very sure whom to approach for work.
When I was on a project it was fantastic, however there were times when I was waiting to be put on a project which meant that I didn't really have much else to do during the day.
I was given the right amount of responsibility for someone of my level; I wasn't heading up a project, nor was I constantly photocopying!
I have definitely learnt some skills for life, notably with regards to the extensive use of excel. However it was also good training for working under pressure, time management and organisation.
The Company
Very friendly office environment - people worked hard, but also played hard.
There was no formal structure for the internship process, and I think it would have been more helpful to have some kind of timetable where we had already been allocated to projects/teams.
We were given 2 days of training at the start of the internship which really helped to bond us as a team of interns as well as teaching us some basic skills that we needed throughout the internship.
Subsidised Canteen
Following the internship, I had a final round partner interview after which I was offered a graduate job which I have accepted.
The Culture
Everyone was always up for having a drink at the end of the week!
Canary Wharf isn't the cheapest of areas, especially for students, however there is a wide variety of things to do.
Some of the bars are great in Canary Wharf, but the majority of them close at about midnight, after which you may have to move on to another area to continue the partying!
I didn't really find many opportunities to get involved in other activities, which I would have definitely liked to have done.
