About You
It was a very enjoyable experience, which I would highly recommend to others - I learnt an immense amount and all the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. I gained a lot from a short amount of time and have met some really great people!
There were a lot of other students on the Insight Program, so it was difficult to stand out but I feel this was a valuable experience in learning how to make yourself shine amongst others without knocking them down. Everyone I spoke to made myself and my peers feel important and it was strongly emphasised throughout the work that we were important to the firm as it's potential workforce which was very encouraging and motivating.
The amount of guidance received was truly great - everyone I spoke to and networked with had something different to say and all their opinions and experiences as well as guidance helped me to form a better idea about what I want to do and what I would be best at.
In terms of my degree, it is somewhat detached from the Finance industry, however I received a lot of invaluable advice which will be helpful in other endeavours outside my studies and into my future career.
The Company
The structure was very impressive, it was clear a huge amount of planning had gone into it, which meant that the whole week flowed very well and this made the overall experience more enjoyable.
The atmosphere was generally very friendly and positive, everyone was easy to talk to and all the students were also all lovely - overall a great atmosphere!
There were various skills sessions put into place, which were really informative and useful - especially as they taught skills such as presentation and innovation in a creative and fun way. I also appreciated the talks on different aspects of the bank which explained well how they work and what their aims are.
It was easy to find out through speaking to members of staff what their job is like and what their day-to-day lives involve - the shadowing experience helped with this.
The culture was a strong focus point throughout the week, and it was displayed to us in various forms. Firstly through the people who worked there, secondly through the talks we were given on different aspects of the firm such as CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) and lastly through the way the program was designed to showcase what is important to BAML and its employees.
The actual structured content of the program did not have a direct effect on my decisions about my future career, however upon speaking to people and experiencing different divisions I was able to decide what I thought best suited me.
Everything Else
I will be reimbursed for my travel expenses.
There were many varied networking opportunities including relatively informal ones and then more formally arranged ones - all were great in helping to expand my network.
They were extremely enjoyable and also informative as all the representatives had really different roles so there was a wide range of exposure.
Yes we had the chance to speak with and listen to employees who ran or advocated different networks within BAML that other staff could get involved with on a voluntary basis outside of their work,
I would definitely recommend BAML's program to a friend, it was a truly great experience and I've met so many different people that really made the week even more enjoyable.
