About You
The insight was great; we were taught about two divisions of our choice, partaking in case studies and shadowing. We were given presentations on a range of topics and a number of sessions were in place to help develop our soft skills, e.g. presentation ability.
Quite valued, although there was potential to feel even more valued. I think the size of the group admitted was quite high for one week - perhaps this could have been split up into two seperate weeks, like a lot of other banks.
Quite a bit of guidance - HR were always guiding us along the way and business reps were usually helpful when we had questions, be this in a networking event or in the middle of a case study.
As aforementioned, we partook in sessions aimed at developing our soft skills, with presentation/networking skills a particular emphasis. Since I study a non-finance degree, it won't directly impact my studies but will help me in my attempt at getting a Summer internship.
The Company
Quite well structured, however a proper timetable for all days would have been nice to have in advance. Some days were a surprise and we weren't sure what to expect.
The atmosphere was relatively relaxed - no one was competitive and we weren't expected to know a crazy amount about investment banking.
As mentioned, they invested in sessions aimed at developing soft skills - this will assist in my personal training and development regardless of what career path I choose to take.
Shadowing was a fantastic opportunity to see this - some banks don't allow shadowing throughout their weeks. This was perhaps the best part of the week and allowed us to see exactly what happens on a full-time basis.
We were given a number of presentations on company culture, however it's hard to differentiate between banks through these since they're all very similar. Shadowing and networking with employees was a better indicator of culture.
We learnt a lot throughout the week and it was a fantastic overview of the bank and a slightly deeper insight into our two preferential divisions. The plentiful networking sessions were a great chance to discuss career paths with employees.
Everything Else
Travel costs were reimbursed and I was provided with an apartment to stay in throughout.
Yes - this has been mentioned a lot in previous comments. We were able to network at most lunches, at breakfast one morning, and we were brought on a networking dinner one night.
We had social events on the Monday and Wednesday night - these were both networking focused. One was a drinks event and another was a dinner.
Yes - volunteering and sports were emphasised to us on a number of occasions and we were able to speak to people who were involved in a number of different societies within the workplace.
Yes - a fantastic insight into the bank and what to expect as an employee.
