About You
I did enjoy the vacation scheme greatly. The two weeks went by very quickly, and really provided an overview of what living and working in the city would be like.
I felt that my potential was appreciated, and that as a potential future co-worker everyone made an effort to get to know me personally.
The vacation scheme had appointed many different people that could serve as point of reference during the scheme, ranging from "trainee buddies", supervisor and HR people.
It helped me understand much more the main aspects of practicing law in a city firm, and what the clients might be looking for when seeking legal advice.
The Company
The vacation scheme was very well structured, with activities everyday focused on giving you an idea of what it would feel like to be working at the firm.
The atmosphere was very positive and everyone was easy to talk to. I really like how the firm encompasses quality of work with enjoyment of your professional and social life.
I felt they invest greatly. Most of the days had training sessions, including a negotiation workshop. The development team is very efficient.
During the whole scheme I was seated in an office with a senior associate, which allowed me to see what their day-to-day work looked like. Moreover, I was explained in detail the type of cases they had to deal with.
The scheme had many opportunities to mix with people from different departments, and people from all levels across the firm, which allowed me to ask freely any questions and get a feel of what it is like to work there.
More than the content of the day, it was what I saw others doing, and how I saw that people who had been there for several years were enjoying their job.
Everything Else
The payment was more than enough to cover any expenses if you do not live in London normally.
There were many opportunities to meet people at the firm, including meals, drinks, coffees, etc.
They were normally within the firm or near the office in very nice venues and well catered.
Herbert Smith has many social/sporting clubs that they encouraged you to join. It look like there were opportunities for all sorts of interests.
Yes.
