About You
Absolutely loved the 1 week spent shadowing a desktt
People from all levels were keen to talk with me and happy to explain their role and their division. I was also given various tasks to complete.
HR provided a fair amount of guidance as to how to make the most of the insight week. My mentor supported me very well, answering many of my questions and guiding me so as to make the most of the week
The skills developed and information received will play a large part in securing a summer internship.
The Company
The insight week was not rigidly structured as we spent 80% of our time on the desk to which we had been assigned. This allowed for me to dictate my schedule and so with greater flexibility I was able to take the opportunity to speak with many people as well as finish the work that I had been assigned. Being given responsibility of my own time was better than having structured sessions as it was a better reflection of a typical working style and allowed me to pursue different avenues.
The atmosphere, whilst busy and fast-paced was highly collaborative with people more than willing to spend 10-15 minutes chatting about the work they do, and even to help out on any queries I may have had.
As this was only a 1 week program there were not many dedicated training/development session (only 1 session over lunch on interview skills).
The insight provided me with a keen insight into the typical day of an analyst and higher ups too. I was able to see the hours worked, workload, and even witness live deal flow.
The insight week was crucial to understanding the culture of my team and the company as a whole.
The insight week was invaluable as it allowed me to determine whether this was the correct path for me or not.
Everything Else
1 week, unpaid. A £40 card is provided for use in the building's canteen/ vending machines. Travel costs are reimbursed. For students not from London accommodation is provided.
There was 1 organised event with the purpose of networking with employees. However, many opportunities would arise to speak with individuals if you simply ask them.
Went bowling, rather casual, had many analysts come thus making it less intense. Food was provided and it was an open bar.
Many people spend most of their day in the office.
Without a doubt, yes.
