The Role
i enjoyed the placement as it was insightful and put theory into practice, although the hours were long and i sometimes was unsure as to what to do
the staff were very welcoming and some members were very good, giving guidance and advice, although some did leave you on your own sometimes
i had a mentor who did give me some guidance, however i found some other members of staff were more helpful in giving me jobs and showing me what to do
i was busy most of the time, however there were some times when i was not given any tasks and felt like there was nothing to do
i was given quite a lot of responsibility, often being shown what to do once and then left to do it myself, which showed they trusted my ability
all the skills i learnt are skills that i will need throughout this degree and my career as they were basic life skills that are fundamental to nursing
The Company
the atmosphere was good as everyone was very friendly most of the time, there were only a few misunderstandings
it was organised as they knew i was coming, however i wasn't given a proper induction or a mentor for a few days, and no paperwork for a week, so it wasn't fully organised
the staff showed me lots of skills that i will need in my career, so they did invest quite highly in me
i wouldn't mind gaining a job in this organisation as long as it was a bit better organised
The Culture
although i was the only first year on my ward, there were second and third year students who were very helpful and were easy to approach and talk to
i commuted from my halls of residence so there were no living costs. however it was quite expensive to travel to and from my placement each day
i did not live in the area i worked in as i commuted in so did not experience the nightlife
as above N/A
