About You
The insight was very enjoyable. The work that I did was interesting and allowed me to get to grips with the complexities of law. I also enjoyed meeting many different members of the firm, which gave me the opportunity to understand the work and life of a commercial lawyer.
I was asked to complete genuinely important tasks that required significant legal analysis. This was challenging but also fulfilling, allowing me to contribute to the firm and feel valued within it. The numerous events organised for the Vacation Scheme students, including seminars, lunches and evening socials, ensured that we were able to make the most of our time at the firm.
Whenever I asked for guidance or support, it was readily provided. This would come from multiple sources, including members of HR or lawyers within my department. The system of having both supervisors and a 'trainee buddy' meant that I was able to ask plenty of questions about all aspects of Taylor Wessing.
I am convinced that my experience at Taylor Wessing will be invaluable in helping me pursue a career in commercial law. It was fantastic to gain a real sense of the work that commercial lawyers do, as well as understand the nature of a career at Taylor Wessing. The chance to take on plenty of challenging legal tasks has helped to enhance important skills and will assist me in my legal ambitions.
The Company
The structure of the Vacation Scheme was clearly laid out from the beginning of the week, allowing me to easily plan my own schedule for each day. In addition, Vacation Scheme participants were emailed with reminders and updates concerning the structure of the week, ensuring that we were kept in the loop.
The atmosphere throughout the firm was very welcoming and friendly. Members of the firm made a real effort to ensure that I gained as much value from the Vacation Scheme as possible and went out of their way to enhance my experience. I was given the impression that Taylor Wessing would be an excellent workplace for anyone considering a career in commercial law.
The extensive feedback that I was given during the week, particularly from my supervisors, ensured that I was given a full understanding of my areas of strength and the areas where I had room for improvement. This was important for my personal development during the Vacation Scheme. I was also given individual feedback on each piece of work that I completed, meaning that I was able to advance my skills as the week progressed.
A significant effort was made to give us an understanding of full time careers within the firm. Events held with Taylor Wessing trainees, for example, allowed us to get answers about all aspects of work and life at the firm. Additionally, the nature of the tasks that I was given during the week gave me an insight into the sort of work that is carried out by members of the firm.
I was given plenty of opportunities to understand and discuss the culture and values at Taylor Wessing. The firm's focus on innovation and commercial instinct, for example, was apparent in some of the tasks given to Vacation Scheme students during the week. Furthermore, some of the social events organised during the Vacation Scheme allowed me to gain further insight into the firm's culture and priorities.
The Vacation Scheme helped to confirm my decision to become a commercial lawyer. Each day was challenging, enjoyable and interesting. Since the week gave us a true insight into work and life at the firm, I was able to conclude that commercial law is the career for me.
Everything Else
There were plenty of opportunities to meet a variety of people at the firm. Crucially, this included individuals from a range of different practice areas and a range of levels of experience. This allowed me to understand the nature of work in different parts of Taylor Wessing and provided significant networking opportunities.
The seminars, lunches and social events organised for Vacation Scheme students were enjoyable and informative. It was great to spend some of these events with the firm's trainees, who were all incredibly helpful and friendly throughout the week. Once again, the events helped to give a real impression of work and life at the firm.
I got plenty of contact time with various members of the firm, giving me an opportunity to find out about the many activities they pursue outside of work. In addition, I was able to go to an evening pro bono clinic during the week. This was highly informative and I am grateful to HR for arranging my attendance.
Absolutely. The work was fascinating, the events were enjoyable and the firm itself was vibrant and friendly. I was given a real impression of what it is like to work in commercial law and a career at Taylor Wessing.
