The Role
8 weeks seemed a bit long for the placement as sometimes between the interns we were 'fighting' for work
Everyone was extremely friendly and answered any questions that we had and gave us a real insight into KPMG, they made the intern definitely worthwhile
Some days there was alot of work on if we were lucky enough to be on an away job or be given work but others would be very boring and given extremly mundane tasks, I was lucky in that I was given alot of away jobs but other interns in diffeent departments had hardly anything to do.
I was given alot of responsibility on away jobs which surprised me, I dont think one manager really knew what work to give me and he gave me the responsibilty of two whole sections, I think I would have found it very difficult if I had not studied accounting at A level and if I didnt get on with the E1 Jon who I asked for a lot of help.
It has confirmed my choice of career and helped me see the theory I do in my degree put into action.
The Company
I got on well with the managers in my department, they made the office environment less boring and spent alot of time talking to the interns and helping us with our partner presentations,
There was clear outline of what we were actually there for or noone seemed sure what work to give us, We were meant to be given a mentor as stated in our induction but we werent given one.
We weren't given any training.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
I gained a graduate job with KPMG provided I obtain a 2.1
The Culture
We went to quite upmarket bars and restaurents, but went on one social with departments which was laserquest and a meal and this was subsidised by KPMG.
Birmingham is a big city
There were opportunities but I found it quite difficult as I had to commute which was an hour and 20 minutes on the train.
