About You
I really enjoyed the spring week at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. During the week, we had many opportunities to meet a lot of people from different divisions: networking breakfast, diner, career fairs, shadowing session. And I could ask as many questions as we wished. I made my opinion of several divisions within the bank and understand the division that would most fit with my career expectations. Through my questions, I also gained deep understanding of global markets and global economy. That's why I think asking many questions is important to take the most of this experience. I also had the opportunity to meet many european students aiming to work in the same division than me. I am sure they will be good connections for my futur career as well as friends.
I felt valued from the very first hour of the week until the end. All BAML's employees insisted on our career vision and gave us very good advices to succeed in our career. All the organisation of the week showed that BAML did its best to attract talents in their bank as soon as possible.
During the week, we received a lot of support from BAML employees. Indeed, during the conferences we had the opportunity to receive key advices. And we could also meet them to expand our understanding of their job and ask for advices for our futur career.
I have gained a lot of skills during this week: teamwork skills, presentations skills This skills are key to a successful career in every industry. I also gained and a deep understanding of the industry.
The Company
The spring week was very well organised. We had a schedule showing the activities for the week. We had to choose 2 divisions in our application that interested us the most. And during the week, we had two days during which we could talk to people of this division, shadow one of them during 2 hours, assists to conferences and ask questions. We also had several group work that were aimed to see how we behave working in a group.
The atmosphere was very good. I could made many connections and also friends, and at the same time it was competitive. But I think competition within a stimulating environment helps people do their best.
I think BAML has invested a lot in us during the week. We had conferences, really good food, a very good diner as well, and work shadowing sessions. They tried to do their best to recruit the best talented people as soon as possible
I had a 2 hours work shadowing session that helped me understand what a commodities trader do. It was really interesting and gave me an insight of the job. But 2 hours is too short to deeply understand what they do in a weekly basis. I think this is more the role of a summer internship to understand what it would be like to have a full time role.
I knew the companies culture before starting the spring week. But it convinced me that BAML is one of the best bank in term of the quality of work. They are looking for smart people as well as people you would like to work with. And I totally agree with that. They also pay much attention to ethics, which is very important for a bank today
Very valuable! I a sure of the job I would like to work in 2-3years from now.
Everything Else
We were all reimbursed our expenses for the week. We were not paid, which I think is normal.
As I said in my first comments, we had many opportunities to expand our network meeting employees and other interns.
Very good: We had networking breakfast, career fair, networking diner as well as conferences and groups work with employees. Everyday we had the opportunity to expand our network meeting BAML employees.
Yes I had the opportunity to talk with some of them of their life within and outside BAML. Again: ask questions and you'll be able to make your understanding of what working at BAML really looks like (and it looks like very good! )
Yes I would recommend it 100%!
