About You
Very much. The whole week gave me a great insight into the world of property and surveying in a company I very much want to work for.
I did not feel very valued during my experience as I only had a week to get familiar with everyone and what I was doing. I feel for a non-cognate student it is difficult to feel valued as by not studying a property related degree, you are at a disadvantage in terms of knowledge. Therefore tasks delegated to me were not of a difficult/challenging nature.
A lot. I was very fortunate with the mentor I had Tom Larkin (Cardiff Office). Tom, although hugely busy, put a lot of time and energy into ensuring I understood things, and involved me as much as he could.
Although I am currently finishing off my current degree, the skills I have learnt during the week have only helped in reaffirming my passion for property and put me at a slight advantage to other postgraduates going into the profession, as I have experienced what is liked to work in one of, if not the 'best' firms out there.
The Company
The insight was very well structured. I feel the day I had in Bristol however could have been longer, as I did not get much time to meet the other insight students, who are going to be valuable contacts in the future.
Very good. I couldn't fault the Cardiff Office. Everyone was very helpful, and didn't mind offering me some assistance if I needed it.
I think for me, It was only my second property experience, so with all the site visits I had, it gave me a good insight as to the level I need to get to.
A lot. I could see from the other employees and from my mentor exactly what it would be like to work for Savills.
On Thursday, I went to an ideas meeting in Cirencester which proved to be very useful in me gaining a knowledge of what Savills is about, and what they plan on implementing in the future to set themselves apart from the competition.
I think with site visits, and viewings, it showed me that surveying is not only a sociable career, but also a very traditional/professional one. Being personable and professional is something I pride myself on, so I feel the career will really lend itself to me once I complete my masters.
Everything Else
I was not paid, as I did not incur any expenses.
Yes. One day in Bristol Office, although I felt this was short in length. Also I had the opportunity to network with the Cardiff office on Wednesday afternoon which proved to be a great success.
Very good.
Yes. My mentor is very much like myself in that he plays sport and likes to involve himself in outside activities. He is playing for Savills in the Surveyor Sevens.
I would. If working for one of the top firms in the world of property is what they want, then I would not hesitate.
