About You
Overall, the programme was the perfect insight for a first year undergraduate seeking a career in investment banking. Interns will get the opportunity to explore various divisions within the bank regardless of the division(s) they initially applied to.
I definitely felt valued. The bank invests so much to attract talent at an early stage and you'll notice it from day one of the programme. Be it the meals that they provide daily or the fact that employees take time off work to come down and share their experience, interns are very much valued.
Staff from HR were generally always around to provide assistance if needed. I never once felt that there was no one I could approach for advice.
The skills and knowledge I gained during this week will to a certain extent come in useful during the course of my studies, as I major in a related field. For example, during one of the case studies, we had the opportunity to apply a simplified version of company valuation methods in order to value a company which is something I am not due to learn until my 2nd year of university.
The Company
It was organised well and we were kept busy throughout to the week.
Everyone on the programme was friendly but there was a degree of competitiveness that could be felt, and understandably so. I found the atmosphere enjoyable and one in which I could thrive in.
We participated in case studies that broadened our knowledge of finance and there were also sessions that introduced us to various lines within the business.
There was sufficient exposure to junior staff which gave interns the opportunity to ask questions regarding working life and similar matters.
The programme displayed the culture of the firm very well. The staff I met were very supportive and more than happy to share their experiences. It didn't feel like you were speaking to answering machines, but rather developing relationships with people you could potentially be working with in the future.
It reinforced my decision to pursue a career in investment banking. I am positive that this is an industry that I will thrive in.
Everything Else
I stay in London and near the bank so I had no major expenses that needed to be reimbursed.
There were many such opportunities including a networking dinner where interns had the opportunity to speak with senior members of staff within the firm.
They were excellent. In addition to providing interns with an opportunity to meet employees, it also gave us an amazing opportunity to get to know our fellow interns.
We had an entire session dedicated to corporate social responsibility and it was made clear that there were countless opportunities for employees to get involved in outside of work that would also benefit society.
Most definitely.
