About You
I enjoyed this insight a lot because it gave me the unique opportunity to look inside the investment banking industry and Goldman Sachs' culture.
As Spring Interns we were treated with equal respect than other employees of the firm. From the fact that many Managing Directors came to see and talk to us in a more informal setting (for example at the MD Round Tables), you can derive that we were highly valued.
The organizing team from Human Capital Management was very helpful and friendly in everything they did. The programme schedule was given to us on the second day which was very detailed, thus the schedule as well as the recruiters led us very well through the two weeks.
Since we worked on a few case studies in teams, I definitely improved my understanding of team work and the way to work with different types of people on a project. Also I realized how networking is very important because helping each other out on special occasions and in different situations can be significant in some way, e.g. career-wise.
The Company
It was well structured and a huge variety of programmes on the schedule.
Very welcoming and respectful. Although it was quite a competitive group, we still got along very well among us Spring interns.
We received a whole day of accounting and valuation training which was very very helpful and convenient for the whole week and the M&A Case Study. I would never get such an opportunity elsewhere.
Of course the insight would not show us how the real investment banking work looks like since it is on the private side of the bank, hidden from the public by the Chinese Wall. Still we received insight into the work through the case studies we did. Those were informative because they could show us how a whole deal could look like and show us the setting of interacting with clients.
The insight helped me a lot in understanding what Goldman Sachs stresses to be most important. Lots of speakers who talked to us argued with the company culture. At the end, I felt like everyone, all the employees, agree on this point which was very impressive. That is why I want to be part of that culture.
Everything Else
I was paid very adequately, even much more than I would have asked for. Normally spring weeks are just insights which should be most benefitting the participants/interns. But GS values the people it employs very highly which is why I think we were paid for the stay of two weeks.
We had so many opportunities, it was amazing to talk to so many employees coming from different backgrounds and jobs in the firm.
Very nice. Nice settings and nice food. I enjoyed those a lot.
Yes, we were exposed to the different networks within the firm and especially for women, we had a nice women networking event with an entertaining quiz.
Definitely.
