    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my internship at KPMG and it allowed me to learn a lot about consulting. The skills I gained, particularly in my ability to network with senior executives, were invaluable.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • From day one I felt part of the team and they looked to best use the skills I had. I was included by all colleagues on my project from junior to senior staff. I was regularly invited to social events and really enjoyed meeting other employees and hearing about their experiences and careers.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I rotated between 3 teams during my internship, and in 2 of those teams the guidance was very good. However, in one team I was left to my own devices, although the team members were approachable, the advice they offered wasn't particularly useful.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The level of work varied from day to day depending on the deadlines that were required to be met. In general there was a consistent amount of work but it never got to an unmanageable point.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The level of responsibility I was given increased over the course of the internship as I showed the level of work I could deliver.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I learnt will be particularly useful in future jobs and extra-curricular activities at university. I can also see uses for them in my degree studies, particularly the attention to detail and presentation skills.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was extremely friendly and it did not feel like everyone was under serious pressure all the time. Everyone enjoyed having a joke here and there which kept the work enjoyable.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was generally well organised with a freedom allowed for you to network and seek out your own opportunities whilst there.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The necessary training was given although it was not over the top. I liked being able to learn information on the job rather than spending large amounts of the internship I'm training sessions.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I have been offered a graduate position with KPMG and am really looking forward to returning to work there.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • People in the office often went out for drinks or other social activities after work and a lot of the more junior employees ate lunch together regularly. There were also free drinks on a Friday afternoon / evening at the end of each month. Although I didn't personally get involved, I know there are also a lot of sports clubs (and other activities) that full time employees can get involved in.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London - expensive! But when we went out for food or drinks after work, the more senior employees always paid for mine.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Can go anywhere in London from Canary Wharf, so very good in that sense, and lots of bars in Canary Wharf itself.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were opportunities to get involved in company sports clubs etc., although I was not in the office during the football playing season, so was unable to get involved with this. I was invited to a number of business events with colleagues which I particularly enjoyed.
