About You
It was intense with a lot of work to do, but everything was fun and you find that all the interns really make sure that they make the most of their two weeks. Overall, I learnt a lot and everyone (both interns and staff) were incredibly friendly.
Was given employee status, with complete access to trading floor, email account, computer log in etc. and was able to approach anyone on the trading floor to learn more about what they did.
HCM/my buddy/my mentors all provided plenty of support, but I feel that it was an important part of the internship to not completely rely on this, but rather be independent to an extent and make your own contacts on the trading floor too. They gave us plenty of free time to be independent and do what we wanted. We were given plenty of contacts to begin with though.
I benefited a lot, both in terms of knowledge and personality. It was crucial in my opinion to work as a team with your fellow interns to make sure you all get the most out of it.
The Company
Very well structured, with a lot of talks in the first week and more free time to spend on the trading floor in the second week. Overall, we had talks from a range of desks, organised desk rotations, two projects, daily quizzes (during the second week), senior speakers, a few socials, market wrap sessions (where we get tested on the news) and much more. It was intense but worth it.
I wasn't expecting everyone to be as friendly as they were. Everyone was always happy to help and I feel that every intern had a great time.
A lot, both in terms of resources and time.
I spent a lot of time on the trading floor with people with different roles and although I would never know until I actually worked there, I have a much better idea than I expected to.
The culture seems to be very strong on teamwork and being supportive of others, whilst also being proactive and getting things done (not because you have to necessarily, but because everyone there wants to).
I wasn't sure how a trading floor would be prior to that experience, but I have found that I love the dynamic.
Everything Else
I was paid, which is a surprise considering this is work experience.
Plenty, there were some events organised and then we were able to network on the trading floor in our free time.
The social events were fun, usually themed and gave me the chance to get to know the other interns well. The networking was also great, as it allowed me to get a good insight into the culture of the bank.
Yes, there wasn't too much on at the time, with it being easter week, but as a full-time employee, there's plenty.
Already have!
