About You
A throughly enjoyable experience. Every day I was pushed and the environment is one which brings out the best in you.
Constantly reassured about the importance of the next generation. This is something which is clearly at the forefront whilst being treated like an employee really makes you feel like a part of the bank rather than an intern.
Before every step, we had a team of hard working individuals who made sure we understood what we were to do. A very approachable group who would happily answer all questions.
I do not believe that the hard skills I developed in my short time there will be of much use due to doing an unrelated degree. However, the usefulness of soft skills developed will be great. I have also now seen this as the industry for me in which case the technical aspects I believe will help beyond the scope of my university.
The Company
the programme was two weeks which I believe was just right. This enabled the opportunity to really get a feel of the bank and the weeks were split up well too. The programme gained speed in the second week as expected which meant that the knowledge from spotlights from most of the first week could then be implemented during the second, This transition was smooth and proved very helpful.
If like me, you enjoy an environment which is very professional, which pushes you to be the best you can be, then you will find the environment great. Despite an environment in which employees work efficiently, I felt as though I could always ask for a minute of an employees time due to their friendly natures.
As mention before, the firm reassure you of their beliefs and their culture. Investment of time and effort in the next generation is seen to be one of the highest priorities.
The insight was great, but it was an insight and not a full internship, although I feel like I have a taste of what a full time role will be like, I believe that a summer internship would really give that deeper understanding. That being said, two weeks is more than enough to grasp the culture and values of the firm.
the culture is part of everyday life and is engrained in everything the firm does. This is evident from the get go.
As mentioned before, this is definitely a career path that I personally will pursue on the back of this internship.
Everything Else
During all free time, employees were very approachable and enjoyed talking to the interns. Even during work hours they would welcome the chance to chat about the firm and about various different roles.
There were more socials early on, with the expectation of seeking out your own connections, they slowly calmed down as we went into the business side of the internship. This is again something I found to be a great transition. The events themselves were always enjoyable and made for a great chance to meet new interns and employees. My highlight was the penultimate night in which there was a farewell social.
This is something that although was not specifically told, we could see. several programs such as CTW and 10,000 small businesses and 10000 women. We also hear about more leisurely activities such as internal football leagues.
Short answer, Yes. For the long answer, Read all of the other points.
