About You
The insight day only lasted 2 days, but it was jam-packed with activities, networking sessions and talks. It was an amazing experience where I got to meet loads of different employees and make new friends with other like-minded students. I think it was the right balance between talks and activities. For example they did not talk at us all day, but instead we had several interactive sessions spread out throughout the day.
EY's reputation of being a "People's" firm really came through, and I now understand why they are said to really focus on their people skills. Right from the very start, where I walked through the doors, and was greeted by the security guard, I felt like I was truly valued and welcomed. Throughout the day loads of different employees visited us, and gave up their time to help us with the case studies or answer any of our questions. They even took us to Gaucho on the first night!
We received a lot of guidance and support during the insight. All of our questions were answered by the right people. There was also a short talk at the end about the different programmes they offer e.g summer internships, grad programmes etc. They explained thoroughly the application process and gave us invaluable advice for our future careers. A great benefit of attending this insight, is that you get fast-tracked straight onto the assessment centre for any programme.
The information I received and the exposure to the firm has definately increased my motivation to do well at university and join societies, so I am able to secure a job at EY hopefully one day. The skills I developed include: presentation, networking, team building and communication. All of which will benefit me at university when I am working in groups or have to present.
The Company
Very well structured. There was no free time. Even during our breaks we were socialising and networking with other students or members of the firm. So be prepared for 2 very long days, but I guarantee you will have so much fun!
Everyone was very enthusiastic and eager to learn. The thing I liked the most was that there wasn't that competitive atmosphere that you often get when you go to the City, but instead everyone was really friendly and we were all there to develop our skills, and not to cut each others throats out!
I think the firm could of invested more in hosting some personal development workshops. For example before the case study presentation on the second day, it would have been useful to have a session on presentation skills or how to be confident etc. They did however make sure we left the firm with as much information as possible. On the first day we played loads of EY board games about their different service lines, which were very informative.
I think it is hard to know what something will be like until you actually experience it for yourself. So just from speaking to people I wasn't able to know a lot about what working there is like, as everyone has different opinions/experiences and it varies for everyone.
A hell of a lot! By speaking to the employees and simply experiencing the ambient for yourself helps you a lot in understanding the company culture.
I now know about their different service lines, and which area I am most interested in. It is also useful in knowing if you would fit in, in a firm like EY.
Everything Else
Your travel expenses are reimbursed, and if you are travelling from far, they will even pay for your hotel!
A lot of networking opportunities during your breaks, lunch, dinner and case study work.
Dinner at Gaucho on the first night was the best opportunity to get to know everyone, over a delicious meal and drinks.
Drinks, sports, volunteering and more drinks!
Definitely! Even if they are only a bit curious in knowing what working for such a large firm is like.
