About You
The Spring Insight Programme was a great opportunity to network with industry figures and gaining an insight into their line of work. It is also a very friendly and social atmosphere so there are plenty of ways to discover new people.
We felt very valued and we did receive quite a few presentations by very senior people within the firm. Also, during the networking events, employees from various divisions did their best to welcome us and chat about any topic.
Guidance/support was mainly provided by the Human Resources team and they have done such a great job. Everything ran smoothly and we respected the schedule accordingly, although activities were quite packed during the day.
I have learned so much about the financial services industry overall and Citi. Getting to know all the different divisions within the firm is so valuable because many information that was given during the presentations was fairly confidential (for example : structures of different deals they have been working on lately...). We also developed our understanding of finance and economics by knowing what to look in the Financial Times newspaper.
The Company
The insight was very well organised and activities were very interactive. We had interaction with employees at every single session during the Spring Insight Programme and the Human Resources team was very helpful.
The general atmosphere was quite friendly because we were such an international group with students coming from different universities within Europe. Throughout the day, we had numerous activities which aimed at building relationships.
The time that industry professionals invested shows how much they wanted us to learn more about their businesses and area of focus. I think that this program is a great way to improve in terms of personal training and development (for example : presentations on key divisions, soft skills session such as learning how to read the FT...)
Employees did their best to provide students with information regarding grad schemes and explain the roles of junior employees within Citi. Even though I just came in for the Spring programme, I still think that I have got a good understanding of what a full time role entails at Citi.
Company culture was very easy to learn and understand because we had the opportunity to meet so many employees. Overall, during the different activities of the spring programme, it is incredibly easy to talk to employees and getting to know their teams and the work atmosphere at the firm.
It definitely reinforced my wish to pursue a career in banking and within the financial services industry. Having the chance to attend presentations on key divisions within Citi is also a good way to decide on any potential career advancements at the firm.
Everything Else
For this spring programme, I was not paid but because I study at a non-UK university, my expenses were reimbursed and Citi provided accommodation as well as transportation from my country. The Human Resources team was very helpful and they did their best to understand our needs.
There were so many different opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company. During the course of the spring programme, there were at least one event per day where we could build relationships with employees (networking event, informal quizz at a pub nearby, work shadowing session...)
The networking / social event opportunities were great and Citi provided food/drinks/snacks at every single time therefore we did not have to spend any money. Employees also came all the way to meet and greet us so we could build relationships.
When talking to different employees, I did not really get the chance to learn about the activities that employees can get involved in outside of work. Besides, it would have been good to learn more about possible sport activities or charities in which employees could join.
Definitely! The Spring week is a valuable experience where 1st year students can learn more about the financial services industry as well as Citi's organization. The firm offers many different opportunities to meet employees so building relationships is certainly a key skill that we have learned through this programme. Also, this programme can lead to a summer internship / grad scheme so it is important to be professional and show interest!
