About You
It was extremely enjoyable as I got to learn a lot about the banking industry and I met smart people from all over Europe.
I felt valued by the Bank as I met several persons from different divisions of the firm and they all gave me their time and explained in great detail how their division works. They answered all my questions and directed me to other sources of information. The Bank also provided breakfast, accommodation and paid for transport.
received a lot of support. As mentioned above, I met employees from all divisions at BAML and they all gave us a pretty good idea about the work they do. The people who were running the event also gave us a lot of support in terms of career advice, interview tips, presentation techniques, etc.
It is definitely going to help me in deciding what I want to do later because now, I have a good idea of what a Bank does. There was also a guest speaker who helped us improve our presentation skills and that is definitely going to be helpful while doing presentations at university or even outside university.
The Company
The insight week was well structured. On the first day, we had general presentations about the bank, about the industry, about skills needed at the bank etc. We had to choose two divisions and the next two days we had presentations on those two divisions and did some work shadowing. Then, we had another general presentation day with skills sessions and a group exercise on which we were assessed for a summer internship in 2016. The last day was basically an assessment centre with a numerical exercise, two interviews and a solo presentation. However, I wish all interns could have an insight into all departments of the bank rather than just two.
Everyone was friendly and seemed to have a lot of fun. The employees also seemed happy to help.
They invested a lot of their time to make us understand the work that each business line does. We also got a training on presentation techniques, which I found extremely helpful. We also had really in-depth talks about our chosen divisions.
It helped me understand what to expect to be doing and what the working environment was like in each business line. The employees gave us a good idea as to what activities full time employees at BAML take part in, from volunteering work to social events.
We did have several presentations for each division to get several views but I just wish we could do work shadowing for longer. I feel that a week is not enough for a spring insight program. Two weeks would be better to get a better insight.
The presentations and networking events gave a very good idea of how the work environment is in each division but it made my choice even harder because I found all of them very exciting. I eventually chose one which seemed to involve more quantitative skills.
Everything Else
I was reimbursed expenses.
One of the best things of this program is the networking opportunity it presents. We had networking drinks in a pub close to the office on the first day and on the third day, we had a networking dinner. Also, throughout the week, there were division specific networking sessions. On the Thursday, we had a career fair where we could network with people from all divisions.
They were alright. The dinner was a fantastic opportunity to network but the breaks were not that useful because we were on a tight schedule and thus, could not meet all the people we wanted to talk to.
The employees gave us a good idea as to what activities full time employees at BAML take part in, from volunteering work to social events.
Definitely, it's a unique opportunity to meet a lot of people from the Bank and from other universities. You also learn a lot about the industry and enjoy yourself throughout the week.
