About You
I had a great time throughout the week, meeting not only other students from around the UK but also people from UBS and hearing about their journeys and insights.
The people that ran the workshops as well as those that we met during the work shadowing were really approachable and made us feel that our ideas, thoughts and time was valued.
Large selection of workshops, talks conducted during the week, all of which were very informative.
Not only were skills specific to each of the different business areas introduced, but sessions on personal branding and other soft skills were also run which helped with broader personal development.
The Company
We received a timetable at the start of the week, and all of the sessions were run perfectly on time, with sufficient breaks to get to know the other people on the spring week.
The majority of the week was brilliant, although towards the end the assessment centre loomed over many and that became the focus for some, dulling the atmosphere sometimes.
Soft skills as well as skills relevant to the different business areas were all developed throughout the program, which should be useful later on in university as well as throughout a career in finance.
Through the work shadowing we were able to gain a glimpse of what working at UBS would be like; the employees were all very eager to discuss what they did as well as, more importantly, what they enjoyed about their jobs.
Multiple sessions were run on the culture of UBS, however what was more telling was the optimistic and driven attitude shared by all the people that worked at the firm.
We were introduced to all the areas of UBS through presentations and workshops, which will definitely affect my choice of career.
Everything Else
Accommodation and transport were both paid for by UBS which was a nice bonus!
Multiple networking events were run, not to mention the work shadowing and the fact that most (if not all) of the presenters were around to talk to afterwards, giving a broader insight into the functions and people of UBS.
The networking events were relatively well done, as there were many different business areas represented by employees allowing for us to find out on a more fundamental level what each role comprises of. The social event run at the start of the week is also a great way to meet the other students on the program in a more relaxed environment.
UBS runs a multitude of different programs, from those that deal with LGBT+ issues to those that address the lack of women in the workplace to community projects, which are heavily invested in by the firm and which form a core of its business identity.
Definitely; one of the most useful weeks I have had in terms of developing myself and my career prospects!
