About You
The fact that it was quite intense was the biggest enjoyment factor. There was absolutely no time to waste. Although I do think that some of the sessions that Goldman Sachs does during the Spring Internship Programme need improvement. The most surprising and fun bit were the fantastic in-house parties that the firm hosted.
Interns are treated very nicely at Goldman Sachs contrary to the stereotype. The mentors, supervisors, advisors and other employees of the firm were very polite, understanding and remarkably intelligent!
Inspite of the programme duration being only two weeks, I was provided a mentor, a supervisor & advisor for my group project, supervisor & advisor for my individual project and constant feedback from the Human Capital Management staff. Although officially I had one mentor but another employee from that mentor's team willingly spent the same amount of time and effort towards me as my mentor which is quite commendable. So yes, it was fabulous.
Well I learnt about some financial concepts, applied a Mathematics concept called Regression into my project and built things from scratch. Studying Computer Science at university, I wouldnt say that I got to code or learn new concepts about programming but I am sure about having obtained information about their technology stack and a high level overview of technology at the firm.
The Company
Like I previously said, it was quite intense. There were back to back sessions everday from early morning to late afternoon. In this aspect, I guess the firm can do a bit better by providing some free time for the interns to go around, meet some people they've never met before, pitch some ideas or have a good conversation and build their network.
As a whole, the experience was absolutely amazing. I feel quite lucky and blessed to have attended this programme. People at the firm, interns within my division, interns from other divisions, the firm's canteen food - in short everyone and everything at the firm made me feel extremely ecstatic, enthusiastic and exuberant.
The firm held sessions for personality development that were very useful. I am not saying this just for the sake of it but they truly were useful.
They squeezed in a lot of stuff inside two weeks whether that was the group project or the individual project or the daily sessions and hence tried to give us a look of the full time role as closely as possible.
The insight helped me to meet a lot of cool people at the firm. Everyone was polite, down to earth and relaxed inspite of the fact that they had loads of work to do everyday. The productivity to time ratio of people at the firm is too high!
The daily content provided by the firm in sessions was helpful on deciding future career path.
Everything Else
Yes Goldman Sachs pays very well!!
Yes, absolutely! I met a lot of people. Although I feel that the firm should have allocated more time to network rather than having back to back sessions everyday. That is something they can improve upon.
I got an opportunity to ask anything! Yes, anything. Whether it was about the technology stack that they use, about their development practices or about the recent weekend's Derby, the employees answered each and everything with a smile on their face during the networking sessions.
Yes I got to know about the Charity work and in-house "university like societies" that the firm runs. There is a lot of freedom to follow your interest in the form of "university like society" groups of people.
Yes, definitely! It is a lot of fun to be a part of the firm for two weeks.
