The Role
The work done and people I worked with were great, however during my placement a lot of the staff were made redundant and the site closed which obviously altered the atmosphere greatly.
My colleagues were very friendly, and very helpful when it came to doing difficult work. my supervisor however was often absent and i didnt have much contact with him which was disappointing.
Supervisor was not based in the lab which was inconvenient for me as he did not have much idea what i was doing every day. He set up training fo rme at the beginning but that was pretty much it.
I was busy at the beginning however after many people were made redundant i found it difficult to keep busy every day.
I was able to design and carry out my own experiments
I gained massive experience in the lab which is essential for a decent lab based career after graduation. I have found already that I am more confident at uni and am much better at time management.
The Company
Very fun to begin with, not too great at the end.
Quite well organised but no allowance was made for the students when the site shut and we were very much in the dark over what was happening
A fair amount, nothing too big, nothing too small.
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Above 25 days holiday
The company is beginning to move out of the country and I dont want to go with them.
The Culture
Really good group of students on the placement, everyone got on well with each other and are still friends now.
Harlow is generally a cheap town, but not a great area.
A few bars that you could have a good night out in if you were determined. not so great if you werent up for trying.
Gym or pub really.
