About You
-Great overview of the firm in terms of divisions, capabilities, culture and opportunities. -I really enjoyed the work shadowing, which I think there could have been more of (but obviously I understand that this might interfere with the business). -Very open environment, I was impressed that UBS is not afraid to talk about mistakes it made in the past -I also enjoyed the group work (case studies, group presentations, etc..). -The fact that the programme was mixed across all divisions, gave me a great overview of how an investment bank works, but also shows that UBS takes all its divisions equally seriously -Overall, I had a great experience because the people I met from the business as well as my fellow interns contributed to the positive and dynamic environment.
While attending the UBS Insight, it felt like I was part of a new generation of leaders that UBS wants to support from early on. It felt like there was a lot of thought and effort put into the week, to maximize our learning experience. Overall, it felt like UBS is investing in its future leaders.
Guidance and support was particularly needed for the networking opportunities, the numerical test and the assessment centre. For these three parts of the week, there was a lot of guidance given actively and passively. For instance, all group exercises and presentations during the week, prepared me for my presentation at the assessment centre. Similarly, networking opportunities with business representatives during the week, gave me a better insight into how to interact with my interviewer.
I think UBS's values are extremely relevant when conducting business, but also for life in general. Therefore, incorporating those values over the week was the most valuable thing I took with me from this experience.
The Company
There was never an instance where I felt lost or didn't know what to do. The week was a string of interesting and exciting experiences that I went through.
Overall, the atmosphere was very positive and dynamic. All business representatives were extremely helpful and supportive. Similarly, the atmosphere between interns was also surprisingly positive and I definitely made some great acquaintances and friends during the insight.
The networking opportunities with very senior people as well as all the group and presentation exercises definitely contributed to my confidence.
The work shadowing day was probably the closest you could get to experience a day in the life of a UBS employee. I think also the bluntness and honesty of the business representatives helped me understand the realities of the job.
Although there were presentations about the business and its culture, I thought the best way to understand UBS's culture was to talk to the firms people. There were plenty of opportunities for that, and I think it was extremely helpful.
Due to the broad exposure that we got to all divisions and functions of the firm, as well as hearing about the realities of a job in investment banking, I had enough information to make an adequate decision.
Everything Else
Reimbursed for travel and accommodation was provided. Breakfast and lunch was also provided.
Throughout the week, there were plenty of opportunities to interact with people from the business, whether formally or informally.
Overall really great. Monday evening we went bowling with the whole insight class, which was a great opportunity to meet everybody in an informal setting. Throughout the week, there were many networking events with people from all UBS divisions.
Some people just like to go on holiday or play a lot of sports. However, many other UBS employees like to support causes (e.g., Woman's networks, charities, volunteering, etc..) and it felt like UBS is definitely giving its people the freedom to spend some time on those.
