    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I loved it, the whole atmosphere was very welcoming, all the speakers were engaging, and the group activities we did really gave us a good insight into what it would be like to work for UBS. It was also fantastic to meet similarly like minded people from other universities that I otherwise would not have met.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Very valued, a lot of senior employees including some Managing Directors took time out of the schedules just to come to speak us and network with us. There were also a number of graduates who were present running different activities during the week such as the trading floor tour, and a graduate Q&A panel.

    4/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • A lot of guidance, the members of Campus Recruitment were always present and happy to answer any questions we had about anything, and all the speakers were also happy to give guidance too.

    4/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I feel like the skills I learnt from this Insights Week really are skills for life, we learnt about how to market yourself (personal branding), which will be useful wherever you work, how to present to people which again is an important skill and possibly most important, since all the activities were done in groups, we learnt how to effectively work in teams.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Very well structured, at the beginning of the week we were all given a handbook for the week, which at the front had a timetable of how the day would be broken down, so we knew what we'd be doing each day, what time we had to be in for, and where we had to be for each activity. With regards to the activities themselves, they were all smoothly run and timings were kept to pretty well.

    5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Fantastic, honestly I was a bit nervous to do this before I arrived, but my advice would be to anyone just do it! You'll meet loads of other great people, who you may end up working with in 5-10 years time, and everyone is so friendly, and so welcoming.

    5/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • UBS invested a lot in us, as I said in a previous question, many senior and important people took time out to speak to us and network with us. They also gave us a good amount of training and lots of information on all areas of the bank, to help prepare us for later in the week.

    5/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • On one afternoon, we were all paired up with a graduate who we'd be work shadowing for 4-5 hours that day, and that was where we got the most understanding of what it would be like to work there, the graduates were all very helpful and gave us honest opinions on their day to day jobs, and answering questions that we may not have wanted to ask in front of many other people.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • A massive amount, it was easy to tell from the first day that UBS is not an intimidating place to work at all, that the employees there are all treated with respect and all opinions are valued.

    4/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Very helpful, the work shadowing in particular but all the talks from different divisions too gave me a great insight into which areas of the bank I would want to work in and which areas I wouldn't, but seeing it first hand on an insight week I feel is the best way to find these things out.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • We were reimbursed travel expenses into London and, for those who lived outside the M25, we were put up by UBS in a hotel which was a 10-15 minute walk from where we would be working. The hotel was fantastic, everyone had their own mini apartment, with ensuite and a small kitchen, and also everyone from UBS who was from outside the M25 was in the same hotel, which meant after the days working we could all relax together, which was a great way to get to know people away from a working environment.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Yes plenty, we had networking events most days, so either networking lunches or speed networking with some quite senior employees, where we had about 5 minutes as a group to find out as much as we could about them and ask them things the we maybe wanted to know about the business or their area of work.

    4/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • On the Monday evening there was a social event after work, which was again a great place to meet people and socialise with the rest of the people on the Insights Week. However, every day there was a breakfast put on by UBS for half an hour before the days work, which was a really good time to talk to new people and introduce yourself to people you maybe hadn't met yet.

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes, one of the talks was specifically on this topic, so 4 representatives from different activities came to talk to us about what they were involved with and how UBS had supported them with it, for example there were people who ran charity initiatives, LGBT support throughout the company, and a whole range of other things too.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Definitely, everyone on the insight week had such a good time, as soon as I left I actually missed working in that environment and didn't like the thought of having to go back to uni for exams! I'd say this Insights Week is a great way to meet friends, to build up your professional network and to get to know people who have similar interests and career ambitions to you.
