About You
The 5 day insight gave us an opportunity to explore many different areas of RBS. From various skill sessions, to presentations, to job shadowing, the week was very enjoyable and well structured throughout.
Particularly during the 2 days of job shadowing, I felt that all the employees treated me like their co-worker. They took the time to show and explain the particular project tasks they were working on. Also, we participated in group exercises during these days, where our opinion were well respected.
Throughout the week, we were given lots of support, whether it was socially or indeed employability wise. The organisers gave us lots of opportunities to develop new skills and guided us along the process. Plus, the external firm that came in taught me some new topics about finance.
I felt that the presentation sessions that we completed were extremely valuable to our university degree as 'practice makes perfect.' Presently to senior managers was challenging, yet really enjoyable and helped boost my confidence. Also, gaining real life experience of working life within an organisation will definitely help in the future.
The Company
I thought that the whole week was well structured, with a clear timetable that was kept to daily. The variety of events on offer were great and there was the right balance between job shadowing and sessions.
Given everyone on the programme has similar interests, socially the week was enjoyable. Also, all the staff that helped us created a pleasant and friendly, but professional environment.
Even though this was just an insight, RBS really invests in the youth and helped us to develop our skills. Through the practical sessions and events, we made the most of what they offered, which was great.
In the job shadowing, we were able to get a small flavour of what it would be like to have a job. A wide diversity of roles are on offer within the bank, and the events helped get an understanding of a few.
The company culture was a very important aspect of the insight week. We were given plenty of presentation of what the aim and beliefs of the company are and through events, like the CSR activity we gained a clear understanding.
Within the services programme, I really got a good understanding on where my career will hopefully lead to. There is such a large range of jobs on offer which they gave us opportunities to explore and see where our interest lie.
Everything Else
Covered travel, accommodation and food expenses
Apart from the job shadowing, which was a huge part of the week, they were a couple networking events everyday.
They are really what you make of them, and I felt the best ones were talking to the current graduates, who have been in our positions
Not really, but could have just asked
Yes, without a doubt, an opportunity to explore what a bank has to offering us students is priceless. We were able to learn new skills, network with employees, improve our presentation skills and most importantly job shadow in the real working world.
