The Role
Lot's of fun working at IBM Southbank with loads of other placement students, my job role was pretty fun for a job and was relatively interesting.
Colleagues are all really friendly and supportive. I got the opportunity to work with people across Europe and in the US which was interesting the one thing from stopping this being a 10 is that it can be difficult to meet people face to face enough because of the remote working but this isn't a major problem as your provided with really good collaboration tools.
All my managers were really helpful and supportive, everyone is very interested in your development and offering opportunities to placement students.
Can vary a lot day to day but generally I always had something to do and I wasn't often overwhelmed by the amount of work given to me. People are always willing to help.
I was very surprised with how much trust is placed in every placement student. For example I organized an event that I was entirely responsible for and my manager trusted that I would run a good event with little input from him.
Huge variety of training on offer, IBM run a scheme called Think40 where every IBMer is supposed to do at least 40 hours of training every year I did about that in my first 3 months and at least that again in other training that doesn't count towards that. Such as employability skills and lot's of job specific training
The Company
The office atmosphere is ok and fairly relaxed, there is lot's of remote workers so often the majority of people in the office are managers, graduates, placement students and apprentices.
Very well defined scheme, you get 2 days of training, an opportunity to meet other placement students and a personal development manager (who is essentially there to help you with any problems you have, offer a variety of training to help in your personal development and assess your time on placement) as soon as you join. People don't expect too much of you initially and often the placement student you are replacing is there to help out with training and the transition phase.
There is a huge variety of training offered, lot's of official courses that offer real world certifications and opportunities to learn about areas that are completely unrelated to your role as well as role specific training.

Working from home
Good opportunities to come back with the company taking on a large amount of graduates and a really good grad scheme. Also the opportunity to for promotion within IBM it's a massive company so there is a lot of room to climb.
The Culture
Around 300 placement students in total and with 100 working in my office meant there is always lots of things going on and lot's of opportunities to socialize with other colleagues at work with lot's of events for meeting people.
Pretty expensive to live in London but you are given a London allowance to boost your wages.
London....
Being a really big company there is loads of opportunities to get involved in like a massive variety of clubs and teams.
