The Role
The work wasn't always riveting but it was great to have an insight into the workings of such a brilliant firm.
Everyone was extremely welcoming but due to tight deadlines on the project I was assigned to, my colleagues were all extremely busy and I felt I would have been more valuable had I had some basic training before entering into the project.
The management on my project were very supportive and helpful.
After a relaxed start, I found that I always had something to do.
The work I was given really did contribute towards the final team report, but obviously was not a key part of it. Examples of tasks undertaken: ringing clients, writing up minutes of meetings, checking spreadsheets to ensure correspondence with documents.
Getting a place on the first year internship had been absolutely invaluable to me. It has given me an insight into what working for the big 4 would be like after graduation. I was able to see how an audit report is produced from the inside and although some tasks undertaken seemed menial, the whole experience taught me a great deal. I was able to overcome fears about picking up the phone to ring clients and learned just how vital everyone's role is in a KPMG team.
The Company
The potential for a lot of fun was there, but due to tight deadlines, work was also a key priority,
I was disappointed that I never received the promised feedback at the end of the 2 week placement, because I feel that it would have been invaluable to take it on when applying for jobs. However, given it was the first year of the First Year Internship Scheme, I think it worked well.
As I said, feedback would have been invaluable and basic training before entering into a project, likewise. However, the option was there, when work was intermittent, to complete some online training that had huge relevance to the job in hand.

I loved the people I met whilst working there and the working environment. I would very much like to work for KPMG in future. Having achieved a place on the internship, you are automatically placed in the final round for graduate recruitment which is a fantastic perk.
The Culture
We were taken out to drinks on out first day to get to know the trainees and a bit more and from there, we all met up various times after work. It was a shame that after meeting the other placement students on the first day, that we were all scattered around London and there was no meeting at the end to consolidate the programme. I think that would have been a better ending to the internship,
London was always going to be expensive!
We only went to bars. The timing of the internship, however, correlated with the busiest time of the year for many sectors of the firm, which affected the opportunity to experience the local nightlife.
Just meeting up for drinks.
