The Role
I was given a role of Business Support Analyst. Originally I applied for a marketing role, however there is just a few of them and most of the candidates are offered business ones. Because of that my work was based on planing/reporting. I however enjoyed it as I was trusted by marketing colleagues to join them on projects and was given a variety of additional responsibilities to take.
I felt like a part of the team at all times. Actually throughout the year I was only once called a 'student'. I was given a great support and valued very much.
I was given all the required help and support. One of the things I would recommend any student starting their placement in IBM is to start as early as possible so you could spend some time with the previous placement person who could train you the best. In many cases even your task manager might not be familiar with every little detail of your new role so definitely spend some time with the person you are replacing or at least have his/hers contacts in case you need any help.
It depended on a week day. At the end of the week most of our reporting/planning was done thus those days were much busier than Mondays.
I was given a lot of responsibilities and was able to get additional ones in the areas that were interesting to me. I was given an opportunity to join basically any team in our location on various projects.
It was a year when I finally understood how job market and corporate businesses work.
The Company
My team mostly contained employees that are my parents age, but after work drinks and parties were really great.
It was very well organized. Everything was planned and prepared and at no times I felt lost or alone on any problems.
I was given personal training (leadership, public speaking skill workshops). As I was in a distance location and most of the workshops were held in bigger locations (London Sout Bank, Hursley, Portsmouth) I did not attend many of them

The Culture
I did not have many fellow placement students in my location however I kept in touch with students in other locations and they all were very friendly, supportive and would always help me if asked.
Edinburgh has great prices compared to London
Great, Edinburgh has everything clubs/pubs/live music. If you want something more Glasgow is just an hour away.
Not so much.
