The Role
I enjoyed the different responsibilities i was given immediately upon joining, there was a good balance of work and social life. I'm quite happy with my time here.
I feel like my colleagues treated me as an individual employee rather than just a temporary intern which really helped me feel motivated and a part of a team. They certainly believed in my value and were patient.
My managers and supervisors were always willing to give direction and help me understand tasks and were sure to explain things to me rather than just making me do fruitless tasks. They actually cared about my development.
My core roles didn't occupy a lot of my time however given the amount of opportunities that were easily made available to my self and other interns I found it quite easy to stay occupied and productive.
I was given serious responsibilities that actually contributed to business value, although i had to prove my competence initially with spreadsheets and admin type work, this was quickly overshadowed by meaningful work.
I feel working for a corporation has really helped me in my organisational skills and IT skills, i'm definitely more confident to manage and team and a project due to managerial skills i've learnt along my placement.
The Company
There was a mix of atmospheres as there were various groups of people i'd work with, there were times it was more professional and work focused, however there were also relaxed and social atmospheres, I enjoyed this flexible type of work as it made work feel more exciting and fun.
In terms of structure i think the intern was more in control of how the placement progressed, this however was not necessarily a bad thing as it meant flexibility and a chance to gain real responsibility. Although there was a general direction of progression that was already set in place and enforced by managers, so that was comforting.
Individually managers would invest a lot of time in making you understand and answering general questions on work, as a business IBM invests a lot in terms of workshops and education sessions which include traveling expense paid to other locations for a more interactive session.

Applying for a graduate role is quite straight forward and those with a internship here already can get a massive boost through internal recruitment and good referrals. A lot of opportunities are offered to allow you to 'fast track' to a graduate role if applied back.
The Culture
Fellow placement students socialised a lot and it kept that aspect of uni life alive, this was quite comforting as working in a corporate atmosphere can seem quite daunting at first. Beyond placement students regular employees were also quite friendly and organised meals events outside of work.
In my area of Warwick the living expenses were quite appropriate and the night life around Leamington although not the greatest was more than entertaining! Food and entertainment is in abundance.
Nightlife would be saturated with students from Warwick, Coventry and Leamington. A close knit network of bars and clubs makes it easy to socialise and have a good night out no matter what day of the week.
There were forums put in place that gave people the opportunity to meet up and have fun events outside of work such as BBQs, meals, Sports and cinema etc..
