The Role
Like any internship, there will always be jobs you enjoy more than others, but every role I took on offered some kind of training, additional experience and networking!
Worked in a very close knit team and was always given projects that offered value somewhere in the department
Met managers on a monthly basis, but was more of a case where if i needed their help, I'd ask for it.
Varied levels of work depending on time of year or what project id be on. Never without work but team also ensured I wasnt overloaded.
Taken on lead roles in projects with good external visibility and trusted in the quality of work I'd produce.
Tremendously! Learnt a number of valuable skills such as database management, graphic design, project management as well as some basic development skills and social media planning and strategy.
The Company
Hursley is a very relaxed atmosphere, with a bunch of friendly faces who are always willing to listen and help! Team always up for a bit of fun regardless of how busy we were.
There was a number of previous interns in the role before me, and so there was a clear set of week-to-week tasks, but also plenty of varied project opportunities. Always had something interested or challenging to work on.
A lot of the training came in on the job learning, but there are a number of education opportunities for more technical folk at the Hursley site.

Very keen on getting myself back to IBM after university, and your management encourage and assist you in any way they can. There are number of varying roles on offer and you can diversify the work you do in your role once you have your foot in the door!
The Culture
Awesome social scene for Interns at Hursley, loads of young guys here and plenty of activities going on midweek and at weekends, which is great if you're new to the area. A number of football nights but also cinema trips, pub quizes and other socials.
A number of interns live and go out in winchester which is very very pricey, but Eastleigh, Southampton and surrounding areas are very reasonably priced and the nights out fairly standard in price.
Personally not a fan of southampton as a night out, but still loads on offer for whatever your taste. Plenty of nice bars and pubs in winchester, but your looking at £4+ a pint.
A few of us joined a local football club, but plenty of other sports clubs in the area.
