About You
The Discover EY Programme was one amazing experience! The two days were very well organised, the recruiters and the staff were extremely supportive, understanding and caring. The extend to which I enjoyed this insight can't be described with words, one must experience it themselves, in order to grasp the value of such an experience.
The whole atmosphere during these two days was very professional and friendly. The company didn't make it seem as though they were pushing you to join them. No. EY made me feel as though this was the place I want to work, this is the place where I belong and this is definitely the place where I would like to come back. Everyone hosting and organising the event was very enthusiastic and motivated. You could actually see and feel that this wasn't just another Insight day for them. No, this was THE Insight day, where they wanted to make you feel welcome, enjoy yourself, learn about the company, learn about yourself, and above all, have FUN!
When I arrived for the Insight day , I had a bunch of questions in mind. All of those were answered completely during the first day of the insight, which was actually organised so that we could be acquainted and familiarised with the company, it's divisions and what type of work you would be conducting. I have to admit that half way through the first day, I was already struggling with thinking of what questions to ask. Everything was translated to us in a concise and easy to understand manner.
The whole networking that took place, understanding how chartered institutes conduct their exams, meeting new people, learning more about yourself, being given the joyful task of brainstorming over a case study, presenting in front of a client, seeing and adopting a professional style of manner... All of these skills that I developed through the two days would definitely help me in my career, However, it's mostly the confidence, that EY allowed me to grasp, that will truly benefit me in the future. Because EY made me feel welcome and pushed me to my limits, in such a way, that I truly felt as I can achieve anything I want, as long as I am confident in myself and my skills.
The Company
The insight's structure was really well thought out. I honestly, can't think of a better way to organise such an event. The first day was really packed with presentations and information, however, the games and social event at the end, really balanced the day out. The second day felt more free, as we, the graduates, were given full freedom to work on our task and deliver our results at the end of the day. The contrast between these two days, worked really well and made me feel as though I really received something out of this event, which I undoubtedly did.
The atmosphere was really friendly and welcoming from the recruiters. My fellow students seemed a bit cautious and nervous at the beginning, as we weren't sure what was waiting for us throughout the days. However, the Ice Breaker event that the first day took off with, really helped smooth the atmosphere out. Everyone had realised that this wasn't a competition or a "fight for that internship". No. We were all there to have fun, learn about ourselves and each other. This message was clearly related from the very beginning.
Allowing for a partner, interns, current employees and even the head of the Tax service line to come and talk to us, say it all. Also, the EY-special games and the materials we were given. The company really managed to show that we weren't just some random candidates, no, we were the candidates that earned their place at the insight day, which really helped boost our self-esteem and allowed us to work more on ourselves and our skills.
This specific insight programme was for the Tax and Assurance teams, so it didn't fail to touch on those. Many of the exercises were directly related to the work in these service lines. However, EY wasn't that determined to bombard us with role specific terms, vocabulary and tasks, as not all of us come from the same educational background. However, the company managed to deliver an event that really gives a taste of what working in these fields would feel like. Also, the contact with interns and current employees, working in these lines, was really beneficial to learn more.
EY feel extremely friendly and welcoming. There wasn't a game of pretend or anything like that. We came in contact with not just the recruiters and organisers of the event but people who were on their work day during the time we were there. Perhaps, the enthusiasm and motivation is greatly contagious in such a company, but I could safely say that none of the employees lacked in it. Everyone seemed, not to enjoy their job, but to love it.
I've always known what career path I want to pursue, however the insight day made me more determined and motivated to reach my goal.
Everything Else
We were given a budget for our travel expenses, for which we were asked to fill in a reimbursement form.
There were plenty of opportunities, indeed and the insight definitely didn't lack in these.
Everyone could freely interact and socialise amongst each other, which was amazing and definitely contributed to the atmosphere.
These were touched upon on a few occasions, but not so much in depth.
Definitely! I would suggest anyone in their 1st or 2nd year to apply. Getting this opportunity really helps you move forward.
