About You
I enjoyed the insight week very much, there was a healthy balance between work and leisure. I definitely learnt a lot during the training classes and work shadows; I realised this even more when I went back and studied a book regarding the basics about the industry and found out that a lot of them were covered by the analysts during the work shadowing sessions.
The mentors treated us very well, every morning we will have a catchup session before we start off the day so that we can ask any questions to address our concerns or just chat with them to get to know them better as well.
I was assigned a graduate buddy who was always there for me to ask any questions at all, and I was grateful that the other colleagues in the company were very supportive and helpful as well.
The training classes were extremely beneficial, I learnt a lot of technical knowledge from it; work shadows were very helpful and the analysts were great in explaining certain concepts. After this spring week, I felt that a lot of financial jargons made more sense and now I am able to understand well when I am listening to a talk regarding financial issues.
The Company
The insight week was very well structured - we were already given a schedule and list of analysts we were supposed to shadow beforehand, the spring week was pretty smooth.
I absolutely loved the atmosphere in the company as it was considerably relaxed and laid back, everyone was helpful and friendly. I do not think it was intense and I enjoyed the atmosphere as well when I was at my desk working on my project.
Everyday we will have 2 hours of training classes. Besides that, we were also assigned to shadow 6 analysts to get to know their day to day work.
The work shadowing sessions was an excellent opportunity to understand what it is like to end up in a full time role.
Observing everyone during my time in the spring week helps; interacting with the analysts and also seniors helped me understand their values as well. We were also assigned projects which required us to do a bit of research about the company's culture.
The content was very valuable and I find them to be extremely helpful.
Everything Else
I submitted the claim form for reimbursement but they have not get back to me yet.
Yes there were several networking sessions, one was during the first day when most of the attendees were analysts but however during the last day, more seniors came along as well.
The food and drinks were great, the atmosphere was relaxed and laid back, everyone had an enjoyable time.
Not really, but I heard that there were activities like playing ping pong, bowling etc.
BlackRock is a top notch asset management firm, definitely!
