About You
It was a great experience as I leant about the tax and assurance divisions in great detail and getting an in depth insight into the sub divisions that these broad categories have. I also met fellow interns who came from different universities and cultures which made the 2 insight days at EY one of the most engaging and diversified experiences I have had to date.
Employees at EY were really appreciative of any feedback that I, as in intern, gave to the team and I always felt as if I was already a full time employee for EY since everyone treated me so well. The culture at EY seemed flexible and every intern was valued very highly since it sees its interns or those coming in for insight as potential future employees for the firm.
The HR team was very supportive and was ready to help at all times. The employees from the tax and assurance fields were very engaging and gave brilliant insights into their typical day, the type of work they do and what challenges they face in their job. They were willing to share contact and I am sure they will be prompt in responding to me shall I have any query regarding EY or the professional services industry in general. After the presentation and the 2 games, we were also given feedback as to how we could improve which was truly valuable.
I gained a lot from the two days that I spent with EY. I got to work in a team to make a presentation and this helped me polish my interpersonal and team working skills. I received a great deal of information into human capital, audit and FIDS alongside other divisions all of which helped me to clarify my mind about what I want to do in future and therefore which university modules would be relevant to that career.
The Company
The insight was very well structured. Not only were their employees giving us brilliant insight into the different fields but they were several networking opportunities including a three hour long dinner where you could exchange contacts and get to know about the industry from the employees in a more informal atmosphere. The fact that the insight itself did not involve any assessing was really good since I could ask questions which may seem basic without having to worry about whether I would be judged upon them.
The staff and the employees were friendly and it seemed that every single intern was enjoying his/her time at EY which made these 2 days even better. There was no pressure on anyone and everyone felt calm and could therefore function better. Despite the first day being 12 hours long including the dinner, the time passed by quickly and at no moment did I feel that I could have employed my time doing something else.
EY values any prospective employees highly and I therefore felt that everyone from the EY team put in a great effort to ensure that I receive an in depth insight into tax and assurance. The fact that EY has called everyone from the insight scheme to the assessment centre means that it plans to invest even further in me if I meet their criteria.
All of the students this insight programme were given an opportunity to talk to employees ranging from fresh graduates to MDs and therefore we could get to know from them exactly how their daily routine is and what responsibilities they have. Therefore I got a great understanding of how working full time at EY would be like.
At the insight week, I really felt that EY highly focuses on flexibility and allows its employees to personally adjust their tasks as long as the work gets done. Employees seemed to support each other and cover up for each other in case someone has an urgent personal issue. EY also has an ambitious culture and with the vision 2020, it has given everyone a motive to work towards.
The content of the day was very useful as I got to know what human capital is within the tax division and what FIDS involves. I also got to know a great deal about audit and it helped me to consider all of the different tax and assurance fields that EY has in great detail. However, a simultaneous insight into advisory would have made the experience even better.
Everything Else
Yes, there were networking opportunity both within EY and also at a three hour long external dinner.
The networking events were pretty impressive as we were able to ask any questions regarding the sector that we want and there were people from all the sub divisions which meant that I could talk to different people and get unique views and perspectives of what their job entails and how they have been finding it.
Yes, I found out that EY employees engage in charitable activities and EY lets employees give certain days of a year to work solely on social programmes. EY employees also engage in social activities and employees themselves are free to initiate any event they want.
Yes, I would highly recommend this insight to a friend especially if he or she is interested in the assurance or the tax field. The opportunity to listen to top level employees and get to know the experiences of fresh graduates gives a diverse set of views and opinions.
