The Role
I did enjoy the job a lot but the company was going through a re-org so it was hard at times to find interesting work to do.
I got on well with all of the colleagues that I worked with they where a great bunch of people.
During the placement I had a change of manager who was new to managing staff so sometimes it was hard for them to provide the right kind of guidance I was looking for.
Not really that busy and the work if very repetitive at times. Although at the start of the placement everything is new and does take some time to get your head around what you are doing.
You are exposed to customers every day and they are looking to you for the right answer and the team is looking for you to provide the right answers. During the re-org on my placement I had a lot more responsibility than what most students had as key staff members had left the department and i was picking up the slack from them. If wasn't for the re-org then my responsibility would have been much less.
I gained a lot of skills in communication and working for a large organisation but i didn’t get any professional training (e.g. Six Sigma) although i did ask for this training and several occasions I was denied every time.
The Company
It was your stereotypical office really the atmosphere was not as good as it could have been but it could have been worse.
Not the greatest to be honest there was a lot of paper work to keep up with in regards to their own internship which did not provide much benefit as they are now with the eSkills internship scheme.
The training and development scheme that GSK have are fantastic it’s just a shame that due to budget cuts that the IT department while i was there meant that I didn’t go on any.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Working from home
Healthcare/Dental
I would love to work for GSK again as they are a great company to work for.
The Culture
There was a very large social scene but that was down to our self’s organising nights out.
Very costly! rent is very high and leave you counting the pennies at the end of the month!
A few local bars but nothing that great. However, central London is only a tube ride away.
Apart from sports it’s more who you know as to whether you get invited to any activities rather than an invitation for all.
