About You
I really enjoyed the insight as it was the first time I had experience at an Investment Bank. The placement made investment banking all the more enjoyable and it was nice to see that Merrill Lynch are working hard to get more women into IB.
As the insight was more about networking, not much work was done, however, what made this placement stand out from other insights was the chance to shadow someone for an hour or two, I was put on the trading floor which was very interesting
I received a lot of guidance throughout the insight, everyone was very friendly and able to answer any questions in a postive manner
The insight really built on networking skills, which I believe will be fantastic for future careers events, when applying for graduate scheme. It also provided career knowledge at such an early stage, which will really make you stand out when applying for grad schemes.
The Company
The insight was very well structure and clear time and effort had been put into the programme. There were a mix of speakers as well as networking which gave a varied and diverse approach.
Merrill Lynch has a very friendly atmosphere and breaks the corporate stigma that many percieve investments banks usually have.
As the insight was more about networking, training and development wasn't really part of it
Being able to speak to current graduates on the grad programme, really helped understand the next steps to take throughout university and what exactly to expect if selected for the grad scheme
The culture seemed friendly and welcoming, thus making it an attractive firm to work at. Again, being able to network with currently employees was intergral to understanding about company culture
I will definitley consider applying for the Merill Lynch grad scheme after this Insight, before the insight I was interested in investment banking but didn't know much about it and this programme really helped me decide this is something I would like to do.
Everything Else
It's really easy to claim expenses, just send receipts of your travel tickets/Oyster with other details via email. Details are provided at the end of the placement and the money is quickly transferred to your bank account
Networking was an intergral part of the insight
Networking gave the opportunity to speak with current employees as well as other students on the insight, giving further opportunities into investment banking and other insights people have been on
A well informed tour and networking helped understand the activities employees can get involved in outside of work
Yes I have already done so and some of my friends have subsequently also applied to this insight
