The Role
During my placement year at Cummins I thoroughly enjoyed myself, getting involved in multiple exciting projects that benefited the business significantly.
As an intern at Cummins your are not treated as a student, but a valued member of your department and the organisation.
You may be treated as a full time member of your department during your year, however nobody will forget the fact that you are still a student and will require assistance from time to time. Quarterly reviews will be held with your manager to discuss your performance and to make sure you are heading in the right direction, if however it is felt that you are heading in the wrong direction your manager will guide and support you, in order to get back on track.
Each day of the placement will vary, no 2 days will be the same. If your manager feels you are dealing with your current work load well and you feel that you can up your work load, then you will receive more work.
Similar to the last section your responsibility will depend on your initial performance. Your performance will reflect your responsibility. However you can take on as much responsibility as you wish, providing you are prepared find work/ projects to get involved with.
Throughout the year many skills were gained and others improved. Upon the return to university my confidence levels have greatly increased, feeling mentally and physically prepared for the work that lies ahead.
The Company
The atmosphere in my office was positive and motivational. Each individual was happy to assist when they were required.
I feel Cummins run a very slick and well organised placement scheme, providing each placement with training modules throughout the year.
As mentioned above each placement will receive placement module training focusing on Presentation, team working and customer service skills. Depending on the department whether you receive additional training relevant to your job role.

The future employment prospects are very appealing and my sights are set on achieving a future career with Cummins. Cummins graduate salaries are one of the top for the UK.
The Culture
At Cummins Power Generation there were 32 placements recruited for the year 2014-15. Throughout the year many social gatherings and events where organised to aid group bonding etc.
The cost of living in the area was relatively cheap as were the socialising costs, however certain areas were avoided due to the living costs.
The night life in the area I worked in was very poor, however a 30 minute taxi journey will take you to a local town where the nightlife was significantly better.
At Cummins there are many internal groups, providing many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work.
