The Role
I really enjoyed the project work involved in my placement, it was very varied, challenging, rewarding and helped me develop key skills
I had a very close relationship with my project manager and felt very valued by her. My contribution was also recognised at a team and wider level.
Lots of support, suggestions and guidance. More than happy to answer any questions I had.
I was extremely busy on a daily basis, regularly working long hours. This depends on the project you are working on. Other projects had a much more balanced work-load.
I was quite surprised at the level of responsibilty I was trusted with as a placement student. I worked closely with my manager to seek approval however I was in charge for finance budgets and project management and had regular client engagement.
I developed many skilss durin my placement - namely finding solutions/problem solving, improving communication styles, priortising and time management. I was alos able to observe key ares I was interested in - such as facilitation of coaching. There were not many opportunities for formal training though.
The Company
Good team atmosphere with monthly team meetings with pizza and drinks. Senior staff very relaxed and jokey at times. Good overall atmosphere between teams and departments also - approachable.
I was very fortunate to come straight into projects to work on; as well as highlight areas I would like to see. Selection, recruitment and then graduate opportunites were well defined.
PwC allowed me to travel for a few days to observe some work in action - that I was very eager to see. I also developed key skills through my project work. However, very little formal training opportunities.
Company Parties/Events
Graduate opportunities available - placement students can go back to uni with a graduate offer already in place. Lots of potential for promotion and development areas in the future also.
The Culture
I was slightly isolated in my placement as I was the only placement in my department. Other departments with multiple placement student probably had more of a social scene. However I had regular social outings with my department and also with friends I made along the way.
Cost of living is not too bad in Belfast - can have a night out on a budget.
Lots ofdiffernt places, bars, clubs, gigs, concerts, restaurants etc
Yes - social, volunteering. We had a community and social committee to help arrange things.
