About You
Discover EY was an amazing experience. There was so much packed into two days and I was surprised at how much I learned given the short amount of time. Not only that, the dinner in the evening and being able to network with current staff and graduates was something that can't be missed. I very much enjoyed it.
I felt pretty valued by everyone. You could really tell that we were hand-picked because there was only about 30 of us there and they had received hundreds of applications, so it made us feel extra special.
There wasn't much guidance on the first day as it was all presentations, but on the second day when we had a mock client exercise, we had a graduate advisor who helped us prepare our presentation if we had any questions as well as providing feedback, which was really nice.
I used the things I learned from Discover EY to help me in my EY Assessment Centre for a Summer Internship, which will help me progress my career further. I can't really comment about my studies as I don't study accounting nor tax.
The Company
Very structured, with a schedule that was adhered to as well as time allowed for breaks.
We were always doing something, whether it was learning about EY or the industry or about our own skills. It was always welcoming and friendly and I could tell that EY really saw potential in us as future employees of their firm.
There wasn't really any training or development apart from the second day where we did a strengths exercise and the role-playing game. Everything was team based, with a little bit of individual feedback, but there wasn't really any time to go into great detail because it was only two days.
The client role-playing exercise really helped out a lot, it was definitely the best part about the two-day programme.
We really got an understanding through the presentations and being able to talk and network with current graduates, undergraduates, staff members, and partners.
I knew right after this that I wanted to work with EY and in assurance.
Everything Else
I was reimbursed for train tickets, EY paid for the hotel directly.
There was a specific networking dinner for this, and the employees moved around so we could get a chance to talk to more than one.
Dinner was delicious and was the highlight of the networking part.
Yes they discussed employee-led clubs/associations.
Yes, if you are interested in a career in tax/assurance and want to know what it's like to work for a professional services firm like EY, this is for you!
