The Role
My placement experience at Volkswagen Group UK LTD has been really enjoyable. Throughout the organisation the people are really friendly and respect you as an undergraduate. I was given a lot of opportunity to develop my technical (IT) and personal skills. I now have a clear understanding of what I would like to do upon completing my degree.
My colleagues valued me as an individual, accepted my opinion and decisions during projects.
Throughout the first 6 months of the placement I had arranged to have a mentor to support me. During the following six months my Manager and I met formally every two weeks to have a catch up on objectives, actions and issues. She always make time to talk to me between if I have any questions.
On average my projects took up 80% of my capacity. So I was kept busy everyday.
I have been given a significant amount of responsibility throughout my placement. My role was project based and required me to meet with individuals at all levels of the organisation (inc Board of Management).
I was given a significant amount of training throughout my placement, that I feel will support me throughout my final year and when I Graduate.
The Company
The environment in Information Systems is fairly quiet, as people are getting on with their work. However, the IS teams are all fun, like to have a joke and laugh.
Considering my role was new when I started, the placement seemed well structured and decisions were made amongst the senior management team about what they wanted me to do 2/3 months in advance. They clearly explained what I should expect to do during my placement.
The company invested heavily in my personal development. Upon completion of my placement I would have completed a number of industry recognised courses and certifications (inc Prince 2, Agile PM, Management of Risk). As well as external courses the HR team offered a number of really beneficial training courses throughout the year.

There is huge number of exciting and challenging opportunity throughout the Group. I hope to return upon completing my degree.
The Culture
There is a very good social scene amongst the undergrads/grads and more formally amongst your working teams. There has been a number of sporting activities arranged outside of work that provides more opportunity to meet people from around the business.
Milton Keynes is fairly expensive to live and go out, however if you house share with other undergraduates the costs are manageable.
There's enough places to enjoy yourself.
