The Role
The placement was very enjoyable, you are given a lot responsibility and trust.
You are made to feel apart of the team and your opinions are respected even in large meetings with management.
You are given a lot of support, you can always ask if you need help and advice. Questions are expected from any placement student.
Very busy, I had 4 projects to manage along with preparing for chairing meetings. However you are never doing the same thing for too long which is great
You are given the same responsibility as any of the graduate engineers, however you are given a lot of support along with this.
Time management and project management will be the key skills I will take into my final year and dissertation.
The Company
The atmosphere is great here in Darlington, everyone is friendly and productive.
There is plenty of student development work and training that needs to be completed, this is all managed by one person so you have good contact and knowledge of what is coming up.
I have attend over 20 training events which all cost the company money and there is a personal development plan that is created by your manager.

I have had good feedback at this point my placement (10 months in), so I am fairly confident I will be returning to Cummins.
The Culture
There are plenty of opportunities to go out with students and colleagues.
I live locally anyway but Prices tend to be a lot cheaper in the northeast compared to other areas of the county.
Darlington is ok, but you are close enough to Newcastle and Durham to have a really good night.
There are plenty of sports centres, and outdoor activity centres in and around Darlington. The company also invests heavily in charity work so every employee is expected to do 4 hours of Paid charity work a year.
