The Role
A really great insight into what it is like to work in a large organisation, Lots of responsibility and development opportunities available which enables you to get the most out of your year out
Treated like part of the team from day one, never seen as 'just a placement student'
The management structure is set out in a way that not only helps you succeed in your role but also develop as a person/professional
Kept relatively busy in my role, there are lots of opportunities to take on more responsibility in other areas if you have time
Lots! Was trusted with managing client relationships and running mini-projects, with lots of support where needed. Feel like I made a real impact on project delivery.
More knowledge of the corporate world has made me consider my graduate prospects, where I want to go from there and how I'll make it all happen. Which I think is a very valuable thing to know! Lots of development time to learn/think about how you'll move your career forward in IBM and beyond
The Company
A great environment to get work done and have some fun around this
Well run, There are regular events to help you get the most out of your placement; whilst there is a structure a lot of it is left for you to move your career in the direction you want.
IBM has a great attitude to personal development with employees encouraged to take 40 hours a year to focus on professional development. The placement scheme is no different with a couple of day long events throughout the year solely focused on personal development.

If you do well in your role and make a positive impact on the organisation there seems to be opportunities to move on to the graduate scheme Graduate roles seem quite varied and there are opportunities to learn more about them and apply during your placement
The Culture
Lots of placement students based in London, always opportunities to go out for lunch / drinks after work
Everyone knows that London is expensive, if you are lucky enough to live with your parents you can have a good time and save some money. If you aren't and have to rent accommodation things can get expensive but it's nothing like being a pennyless student
Lots of bars / pubs , some are more expensive than others though (we normally choose the cheap ones)
Lots of opportunities to get involved in things outside of your role / regular office. Really encouraged to do and try new things
