The Role
It gave me a great insight into how clinical development works, and the challenges associated with getting drugs to market. I enjoyed my time, however sometimes my workload was low, and I was doing a lot of spreadsheet work. Everyone was nice and I was given more responsibility the longer I had been here.
Some colleagues were really good at giving feedback, helping you and providing support. As the year went on, and I was given harder tasks, I felt like I was more involved and contributing to the team. Some colleagues are a little less used to working with students, but this motivated me to impress them by working harder.
My manager was great - we had weekly meetings, they were always supportive and helpful with university requirements. They helped with job applications, any issues with studies, they set goals... everything you would want from a manager!
It varied - some days very busy, some days I was very bored. Generally, the balance was OK.
More as the year went on. At the start I was doing less meaningful work, however as the year went on I was given projects, I was working with external contacts, vendors and working on important tasks.
Increased project management skills, increased knowledge of ICH GCP, improved presentation skills were things I have found I have developed. Presentation skills will be useful in my third year, and PM/ICH knowledge will help in my future career.
The Company
There was a buzz of proffesionalism, however there wasn't much laughing and messing around, other than in the coffee areas or at the end of the meetings! It was an open plan office, so you couldn't make too much noise. Everyone was friendly though and happy to talk - I met some great people.
Very well - clear training, development plans. I had no problems, I was given a laptop, access, phone within the first few hours and was helped the way through the placement.
A lot. Loads of training, insights to future careers, weekly talks about what I have done and what I can do next. The Personal Development Plan was very useful.

Quite - however they are very competitive. A placement will help me in applications however.
The Culture
Yeah was great - there were plenty of students around. We played football, went out for drinks and socialised in and out of work. We all ate lunch every day too.
Fairly high, roughly £500pm rent and bills for a not very nice house in the area.
Easy to get to London, so was fine. Uxbridge itself had plenty of pubs so that wasn't a problem!
Yeah - loads of local sports clubs. I played football and cricket locally and with colleagues after work!
