The Role
I found the work placement here both informative with regards to a career in science but also had fun throughout my time. I have learned a number of valuable skills that will assist me both in a potential future in science and in daily life such as time-managment skills
I feel that I was highly valued, my opinions were always asked for and taken into account and I was given responsibility for many things boht within my own project and other team projects outwith this.
ALthough left to work independently for many of my placement tasks supervisors (both my own and others) were always on hand to assist if I faced problems or needed further support
The work I was given was suitable to fill an 8 hour day with some days requiring less allow me to finish early however other nights I would be required to take work home. This was decided by myself though with freedom to undertake work whenever I felt therefore there was felxability throughout the working week as to my business on a daily basis
I was a lot of responsibilty in regards to the direction of my report and the individual experiments required but was given support in deciding overall aims and goals I was to work towards.
I feel that I have many scinetific technique here that will be hugely beneficial towards a afuture career in this area but I have also developed a number of more general skills such as presentation skills and time-managment which will also benefit me both at university and in any future I decide to pursue
The Company
The full-time staff wre very welcoming and comfortable for the students and the student community itself was very enjoyable.
It was very well organised for me and almost all other placement students I spoke to everyone feeling comfortable and well informed before and during the placement
The company invested a lot of time, money and materials into developing my science skills to make me competent at the job I now do.
Flexi Time

Company Parties/Events
Subsidised Canteen
Financial Bonus
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
I would happily choose to be employed by GSK again if a suitable role was offered to mke after my university graduation
The Culture
Yes students organised many social event sbetween themselves and we were always invited along to nights with colleagues although they were a much rarer occurance
The cost of living was very managable on the wage we received
ALthough not much of a night life within the area itself London was very close and easily accessable if this was desired
There was not many activities organised by the company itself however many student organised activites took place throughout the year.
