The Role
I really enjoyed my placement year at GSK. The amount of oppertunties that are avilable are incrediable, I managed to get a really good understanding of what sort of work i enjoy and what I don't, so I know what sort of jobs I might enjoy after uni. It's a great company to learn in as they give you the oppertunity to take on challenges and lead projects on your own. Whilst always being there to support you as they understand this is a year to learn.
I am extemly grateful I am in such a good team. It is like a family here, everyone is here to support you and also have a laugh together. I think I will miss the people the most when I leave.
I was given alot of support and my managers always asked me what i wanted to get out of the year and if there were any areas I was intersted in gaining more experience. They trusted me to lead and take on projects by myself from early on. When we hit dicultties with certain projects they never took over instead they they gave me the guidance and support to handle it on my own which is much better I think.
I work on seasonal Brands so there were times when I was incrediably busy and times when I was'nt so busy. However I would always mention to my managers if i felt my workload was a little quite and they would give me more projects and jobs to get involved in. There is alot of work that sometimes comes in a rush, so the ability to multitask and manage muliple projects at once is important.
I was given a huge amount of responsilsbity which is great as i lead some really successful projects or managed some diffcult situations on my own. I was sometimes supprised at the amount of responbility I had on things ,however if i felt it was too much, my managers were very approachable so I was able to tell them and then we would discuss it.
I think I have learned alot how a business works and how large organisations manage projects and the workforce. Although I don't think it provided me with specific skills for final year it gave me an understanding of all the theroy we learn at uni and how it worked in the real world. What was marketing really like, how did supply chain really work. What challenges faced business in the e-commerce world and how did they go about acheiving them.
The Company
The atmosphere was really buzzing, there is alot going on all the time. There is also alot of internal activites happening espically for marketing, so everyone felt connected.
It was excelltant, I was never really doing boring admin tasks. well sometimes I was but doesn't everyone have to time to time. I had regular emetings with managers and regular projects I was working on. I attended alot of the brand planning meetings and was invlved in the ideas for the campaigns. I was also involved in alot o trainning and using different systems in the work place.
The company invested alot of time into my personal development. They were support of helping me acheive experience in the areas I was interested in, they gave me a broad depth and understanding to what marketing is and how it oppertates. They provided a broad range of challenges and taks to help develop my general skills as well as my specific marketing and busienss skills.

I think this year has been great, however I think I want to go into a different feild and gain experience in a different market, such as food. The grad scheme and other jobs ad benfits of employees is great but I would like to investigate other avenues of work.
The Culture
Yes we oftern had all the marketing and sales IP's get together and go out or have lunch or run large campaigns or events for charities. There are alot of IPS at GSK so they created IP unite in order to bring the IPS all together organising social events and things.
It was highish. I lived in ealing for the year which was expensive as expected but in terms of going out and things the only real expense was transport. It was'nt unheard of it was the expected price i would pay in this area.
There is not really a nightlife in ealing, people oftern traveled into central which is pretty close on the tube or train.
Yes there were oppertunites to voleenter for helping out at events or sometimes events of interest put on by the agencies which we would attend, talks and things.
